How to get from Podgorica Airport to the city center

Like most airports, Podgorica Golubovci (TGD) is located away from the city. The distance to the center is about 11 km, so walking here will be difficult and long.

From the available varieties, for tourists are possible the following options:

  • taxi (8-12 euros);
  • transfer (15-25 euros);
  • car rental (от 20 euros);
  • train (1,2-2 euros).

We will discuss each type of transport in more detail below.

Important! Public transport does not go to Podgorica airport and there is no direct shuttle bus on the "Airport-City" route.

Previously, buses with a fare of 2 euros ran to the airport, but then they were canceled. Therefore, the train became the most budget option, but there are some nuances here.

Train

The railway is by no means the most popular transport in Montenegro, but definitely one of the cheapest. The ticket price for the train from station "Aerodrom-Podgorica" is €1.2 in second class and €2 in first class. There is a 50% discount for students. And if you have already decided to save in full, then the train is quite suitable for you. But you should not expect comfort from this trip.

The railway station "Aerodrom" is about 20 minutes walk from the main entrance to the airport. Finding it is easy enough, but the appearance of the station leaves much to be desired.

Railway station "Aerodrom"

Here we have given a detailed map how to get on foot to the railway station. The route is not difficult, besides, if you go along the main road from the airport, you will 100% see this station when you reach the bridge, so it will be quite difficult to get lost.

Trains run daily from 6 am to 9 pm, but they do not always depart at a convenient time, so see for yourself whether it will be convenient for you to get there. You can check the current schedule on the official website of the Montenegrin Railway, as it may change depending on the time of year.

Taxi

If you want to organize a more comfortable trip, we advise you to use the services of a taxi. Just order a car in advance by phone or use applications such as TeslaGoApp here, by the way, there is a card payment, which is very rare for Montenegro.

Podgorica Airport has an agreement with two local taxi services — ROYAL TAXI and LIDER TAXI. Their cars are waiting for passengers right in front of the airport exit and have fixed fares.

However, it is worth noting that these tariffs are on average 1.5-2 times higher than if ordered by phone or through the application.

Transfer to Podgorica

If you like to plan in advance so that everything goes calm, then the best way is to transfer from Podgorica airport. Use, for example, the KiwiTaxi service or order a car through the Taxi-travel website; there is a fairly good selection of cars and additional options, so the trip will be as comfortable as possible.

You can independently search for services where you can order a transfer from the airport, but it will be the quest.

By the way, check out the payment policy. On some sites, you can pay part of the payment and pay the rest directly to the driver when you arrive at your destination.

Car rental

If you have a driver's license and driving experience of at least 2 years, then you can easily rent a car in Montenegro. This method is almost the most convenient, because the car will be delivered to you immediately at the airport and it will be at your disposal. Since the roads in Montenegro are quite picturesque, you can stop at the places you like, enjoy the view and take beautiful photos.

Therefore, if you have the right and desire to drive a car, then feel free to rent a car for the period you need. Montenegro is small enough that you can return the car in any city.

You can rent a car in Montenegro online at myrentacar.com. There are the lowest prices (from 20 euros, and out of season you can rent a car from 13 euros!) And a small deposit, or even its absence.

The main thing is that the cars are available :) Therefore, during the season, we recommend taking care of this in advance.

How to get from Podgorica to Tivat, Budva, Kotor and other cities

You can get to the Montenegrin resorts from Podgorica in several ways. In particular, these are:

  • taxi (from 40 euros);
  • transfer (from 30 euros) ;
  • train (from 2.40 euros);
  • bus (from 5 euros) ;
  • car rental (from 20 euros);

The cost of transport will depend on which point you are going to.

Train

If you want to ride to your destination by train, then we dare to upset you that the railway is still quite poorly developed in Montenegro due to the mountainous landscape and the high cost of construction. Therefore, by train, you can only get to cities and towns such as Bar, Sutomore, Virpazar, Danilovgrad, Niksic, Kolasin, Mojkovac and Bielo Pole.

Bar, Sutomore and Virpazar are located on the seashore. If you want to go to the mountains, then go to Kolasin. This is a ski resort in the north of Montenegro, but even in summer there is something to see.

Bus

As for buses, the situation is better here, since Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, is a transport hub, from where you can get to almost anywhere in Montenegro. The bus station is located close to the railway station, and is also located 900 meters from the center, you can walk here or come straight from the airport.

Prices, as well as bus departure times, you can see in advance on the official website busticket4.me.

Important! Do not buy tickets online as you will need to print them out. Electronic versions of tickets are not accepted here and you may simply not be allowed in, or you may be asked to pay the fare again, only in cash.

By the way, many bus stations don't accept credit cards, so always take cash with you and preferably less than 50 euros, as sometimes the cashiers may not have change.

On the website above, you can find the bus schedule, as well as the cost of tickets, but buy the tickets themselves at the bus station, arriving at least 15 minutes before departure.

And one more fact: you should to add up to 1 euro to the prices on the site. This is the commission of any bus station for issuing tickets. If on the site you see a ticket for 5 euros, then at the bus station it will cost 5.5-6. And if you are traveling with a suitcase, then be prepared to pay 1 euro for each piece of luggage. That is, if you have 2 suitcases, then add another 2 euros to the cost. But this is not paid at the box office of the station, but directly from the carrier. You can take hand luggage with you inside for free, but for everything that is rented in the trunk you will have to pay extra.

Taxi/transfer/car rental

You can also rent a car in Podgorica right at the airport and go to the city you need. Since Montenegro is quite small, you will spend no more than 4 hours on the road if you drive slowly to the farthest point. The distance from Podgorica Airport to the resort towns does not exceed 110 km, so you can easily and quickly get to the point you need.

You can check the cost of transfer from Podgorica airport to Budva, Tivat, Kotor, Ulcinj and other cities on this website.

We hope this article was useful for you and helped you better understand the features of transfers from the Montenegro capital airport.
